King is having trouble with expressing his anal glands. They mostly leak when he is sleeping or relaxing on the couch. His stool is not particularly soft and looks pretty normal, he also has very little gas. There is no infection, and it does not seem to bother him (no scooting), and his blood panel is fine. We started to change his diet about 2 weeks ago (medical gastro which seems to be helping - maybe too soon to tell?), but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they have some food to recommend? I would prefer a dry food recommendation, maybe with a wet mix. Rice does not seem to agree with him, but other than that we have not found any other foods to make him sick. He is such a good little guy and never complains, but it can't be comfortable! Last time we went to the vet the glands were filled with 3 months worth of build-up in about 2 weeks time!

Thanks :)

Belzie needed frequent expression until she was about 18 months old. She got really sick and we decided to test her for dietary allergies. She did not test high on really anything, however we followed up with a very strict home cooked elimination diet starting with foods she had 0 response to. We kept her on a very narrow diet for almost a year before I started re-introducing any foods the test results indicated an antigen response to. She has been healthy ever since and has not needed to have her glands expressed in well over 2 years.

For food suggestions. Most frenchies tend to do better on a grain free diet that is high in protein and lower in carbohydrates. I can't actually recommend a brand for you because with Belzies allergy issues she can not have commercial kibble on a regular basis. I feed raw food, or home cooked. If for some reason I cant feed them raw or home cooked we occasionally use canned Evo 95% mixed with a bit of Natural Balance Potato Duck or Origen Fish
