Why do my 2 year old french bulldog foam and drool at mouth around other dogs? He only does this when there are a lot of dogs around. When we are at home and dog walks by nothing.... Should i be worried? and what can I do to stop this? Please help.

Working with dogs, I find when they are stressed or nervous they do drool like new experiences, car rides, grooming, etc. Drooling may be caused from other things but the fact that this happens around lots of dogs makes me think its from an over stimulated dog. They can start to drool suddenly. It could be the stress of being near the puppies or another dog. Some dogs drool when company arrives. I wouldn't be worried just aware that too many dogs may be too much for him.

Thanks so much for the response...
our first experince at the "meet up" last sunday wasn't what i expected. I wish chomper felt more comfortable, I was hoping he would play with Beetlejuice...and the other dogs. But chomper was just in the corner with the leash on drooling... I did not want him to get drool over any other dogs, I did see him get it on a few though...Sorry..

This will come with time, start small. Luckily Beet gets socialized at daycare but it always wasn't that case. A good recommendation, show up near 9:30am next time and when not too many dogs are there..just a few of the early birds. Bring extra special treats and reward frequently to give him reassurance that good things come when dogs are near. When it becomes too much-- leave and with time & practice & repetition, you should see a difference. The more positive exposure, the better.

I have seen this many times when a dog is in a new situation. It is a stress induced reaction. It will get better over time.

Did you say at the last meetup he was ON leash the whole time? If I read that right, then it may have contributed to his stress. At a dog park setting, one of the worst things you can do is leave them on leash. They feel trapped and cannot run or move. Often times the other dogs crowd around and he is tangled and fearful.

Be sure to let your pup off leash. The other owners are very good about watching and making sure their pup does not get out of line. Your little guy will get used to is soon. Perhaps take him to the park at a less busy time so he can explore and sniff around. Then when it is meetup time again, the park will be familiar so he will be more inclined to play rather than explore the "new" surroundings.
