I am interested in finding out from others where they purchased their bulldogs and if they can give me any basic advice or recommendations. I really appreciate any help or insight! Thanks, Jane

I would suggest frequenting area dog shows and meeting and talking with breeders. That's probably your best way to network your way into a healthy and sound frenchie.

Hi Jane,
I agree with Kris that going to shows is a good way to learn about Frenchies and also see what a properly proportioned Frenchies looks like. However there are also good breeders who do not show a lot and have an occasional litter or two.
Some of the things to llok for in a good breeder are, do they do health testing on their dogs, are the puppies up to date on shots/wormings etc., do the dogs adhere to the breed standard (you can go to this link to see the AKC breed standard: /www.frenchbulldogclub.org/ht/a/GetDocumentAction/i/4026 )

Does the breeder ask for a spay/neuter contract, do they have a puppy aplication, will the breeders let you see the parents registrations papers, are the puppies available to be registered with the AKC And a big one for me is will they or will they not sell a puppy with full breeding rites?

I am big on this one due to people buying just any old Frenchie and then wanting to breed them without knowing if they are improving the breed or breeding unwanted traits and health issues. I recently had a man want ot purchase one of our pups to breed to his Staffordshire Bull dog because he thought the puppies would be cute, I said NO! And I do not routinely sell our puppies with full breeding rites.

Although some menbers on this site do not know me or my dogs or their pedigrees, they have assumed that I am not a good or reputable breeder of French Bulldogs. I believe that I am, and I have 2 females that are available and are 12 weeks old and full of love and life! I am also a volunteer fro FBRN (French bulldog rescue network) and there is at least one frenchie in Oregon that is currently available from them. They are a great organization if you would be interested in a frenchie that is older and perhaps have some special needs.
We do have a web site: forgetmenotfrenchies.com that you may go to or you can call me @ 503-769-9969. We are located just outside of Salem in the small town of Stayton.

Another good web site to go to is the French Bulldog Club of America:

I'll look forward to your reply :)
